To change the type of grip tool while moving or rotating objects

  1. Select the objects and subobjects you want to move or rotate.

Press and hold CTRL to select subobjects (faces, edges, and vertices). Release CTRL to select objects.

The UCS icon becomes a move grip tool.

  2. (Optional) Click the base grip of the grip tool, and then click to specify a new location (base point for the operation).
  3. Hover the cursor over an axis handle on the grip tool until it turns yellow and the vector displays, and then click the axis handle.
  4. Press SPACEBAR.

The move grip tool changes to the rotation grip tool. You can press SPACEBAR again to change back to the move grip tool. When you change grip tools this way, the movement remains constrained to the selected axis.
